Meeting the Need: Opportunities to Help
• Scribes for exams November 19th – 24th, call Maria Rowley, 830-285-8631
• Drivers for Christmas caroling for Dec. 19, 8:15-10:45 a.m., call the office, 990-9059
• Two artificial Christmas trees for the Christmas Candlelight Service, call the office, 990-9059

CRITICAL NEED: Scribes Needed for Upcoming Exams
Many parents are needed to serve as scribes during exams Wednesday, November 19th - Tuesday,
November 24th from 8:20 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. for the first, second, and third grade students. Parents scribe
(on computers provided by the school) for these younger children who cannot write their exams yet. This is
a wonderful opportunity for the parents to see the breadth of the children's knowledge. Two scribes for
each class for five days...that makes 30 scribe slots. Please consider assisting in this critical need.
Please call Maria Rowley or email her as soon as possible if you would like to sign up or have questions.

We will have a brief meeting of all scribes on Monday, November 17th at 3:30 pick-up. Thank you for all you do for the school and
for considering this important volunteer opportunity.

Fall Semester Exams November 19 - 25

Examinations are given at the end of each semester. They are administered each morning for an
entire week. All classes are dismissed at 12:15 during exam week, allowing the teachers to begin
reading exams. Students are given broad questions covering aspects of the semester’s study in each subject.
Younger students dictate their answers, which are scribed for them; older students write their answers.
Exams in disciplinary subjects may also include solving equations and reproducing maps, tables, nature
study specimens, and works of art. Prior to grade eight, there is to be no extra study or review in
anticipation of exams. Each student’s exam is to reflect what the student has truly learned during the course
of a term's studies. The quantity of material covered in the upper school is so extensive that exams also
serve the function of facilitating an integration of the material. Thus, upper school students should expect to
spend two to three hours in preparation for each exam. Examination results and the exams themselves are
returned to the parents approximately two weeks after exam week to give parents and students an
opportunity to review the results. Evaluated exams and reports will be sent home for parent review on
Wednesday, December 17th. Exams and reports are to be returned to school on Tuesday, January 6th.
